Hello all,
this is my first post here- thanks in advance if you can help me.
I have a nice 35SPN RF camera. It is working well however it has one worrying problem: the front of the lens barrel is loose. The aperture dial, the shutter speed dial, the front name plate and filter thread part have 1.5mm of free play back and forth. The front lens element itself is sturdy- as is the focusing ring. It is just the outer parts that are loose. My level of expertise repairing cameras is pretty low- and my tools limited. Does anyone have any idea if this is an easy repair? Do I need to disassemble the entire lens? Is there a screw here somewhere that hold this assembly tight? Do I have to remove the lens name plate ring? I read in the archives that this plate/ring is simply glued on and that I can pry it off. I can get a small flat screwdriver under the rings edge due to the free play but I am concerned if I pry it I may damage it?
any help much appreciated. Is this is a common problem/ I read some previous threads that talk of loose lenses but they seem to refer to the lens itself- on my camera the lens is sturdy, the shutter is fine and focusing is good- so I would rather not mess with the lens if it can be helped.

couldn't wait for an answer so I commenced- here is what happened should anyone else find themselves in the same position:
managed to pry off the lens name plate ring- underneath I removed the first element group- beneath that was revealed 3 screws- the source of the problem. All 3 were loose- do I tightened them up- blew out all the dust- re-assembled- glued the name plate ring back in place- and HEY PRESTO! The camera is as good as new! |

I spoke too soon... :-(
further testing reveals the film advance lever can be advanced all the time. It doesn't lock when it has been advanced once. also it does not spring back. I loosened the little cover a little and it started springing back- but it still doesn't lock when advanced...
I guess it can be used AS IS- but I think I will lose a lot of frames advancing the lever before taking a shot...
any ideas on that? |

ha, well. again I couldn't wait. so I removed the baseplate of the camera and located a loose screw near the little ratchet set up that controls the film advance and lock. I tightened the screw- and hey Presto.
the camera seems to work 100% - all functions... |
