hello,I'm new guy from China,my friend ask me to repair his Leica R6,the problem is the shutter jammed on slow speed, but when I open it I found the shutter is very complex than japanese camera,I don't know how to adjust it,I think the problem is not like rollei's oil dirty,it's looks some part or spring need tighten, this is my first time face a R6,if anyone knows how to disassembling R6's Shutter system and adjust it,please give me some advise, many thanks!
best wishes to all of you:-)

how does the mirror unit re-connect to the shutter unit?how to disassembling and adjusting the shutter unit?

wow... for a Leica, it has a striking resemblance to the innards of the Pentax ME super.

what are the symptoms? which speeds does it jam on? how does it jam?

sorry, not familiar with the R6...

Dragunov, thanks for your message,,now I test the shutter unit,it can only work correctly with high speed,if the speed turn under 1/30(until B),when I push the trigger, the first curtain open but the second curtain could not close by itself,I must release the second curtain locker to close it.

I haven't worked on an R6 either, but there should be an escapement gearset in that shutter module - on the right as viewed in your right-hand photo, in the cage above the white plastic cam. If the fast speeds are working and the slow speeds hang up, it sounds like the escapement is jammed.

well, it baffled me since it looks very similar to a ME super, and the R6 is supposed to be fully mechanical... not so sure about same parts, but the ME series has the same shutter blades.
( pictures here: http://www.mypentax.com/PentaxMeSuper.html if you were curious...)

yeah, what Rick said. that little box on the side of the shutter mechanism- it should have an escapement, look for this... you should flood clean with lighter fluid here. it's probably jammed because the oil is old and gums up.

if a gummed up escapement is the case, you probably don't need to tighten the shutter springs. if your high speeds are fine, leave the springs alone.

hope that helps...

The only similarity is the actual shutter blades - they came out of the same Japanese factory. The basic blade mechanism is used in most cameras fitted with vertically moving blades. Look for debris in the mechanism, the lubrication factor is not usually a problem.

Yes,the basic blade mechanism made from seiko, but leica designed the speed mechanism.I though the problem is lack lubrication, but when I open it,I found the main gears are made of Nelon,so I think it should be some parts not in the position.

interesting. the shutter blades are identical but the mirror cocking system seems to be very like that of the ME series.

i suppose then the solution is to check for broken bits or other stuff jamming the slow speed gears or check to make sure that all gears axles are in their respective positions...

Cameras are no different to other 'mechanical' objects. For example; if you take similar engines and gearboxes from all the major automobile manufactures and then strip out the internals, you would be hard pushed to identify who manufactured each individual unit from examining the internal parts - The basic internals from each manufacture all look the same. There are only a limited number of ways to build/connect the internals of a single lens reflex - and with major bits being made by specialist manufacturers, you a bound to have similar looking internals.
