Canon AE-1.
I'm trying to replace the battery in an old Canon. Is there a trick to opening the battery cover? I appreciate any help. |

No, gently push the catch down with a thin object. However if the spring that normally pops the door open is lost/missing, then you have to lift the door as you move the catch. |

Should have stated that you push the catch down towards the left hand/rewind knob end of body. I always hold A series cameras rewind knob end down when changing batteries, this allows the battery compartment door to 'fall' open when the catch is released. Especially useful if the door hinge spring has broken or not been replaced when a replacement door was fitted. A series cameras were originally supplied with a plastic viewfinder cover, which had a small 'finger' on one edge to move the battery door catch. |
