Hi Guys I have just discovered this forum, I am a complete newbie to camera repair, and as you might suspect I have a question for you experts!! I have an OM-2 that has a broken film rewind handle (the little bit that flips out has been snapped off) but I have an OM-30 that I could use for donor parts, would it be possible to fix the whole rewind handle onto the OM2 spindle?? I know it's an OM system, but this might be one step too far... |

The OM experts will give you a quick direct answer no doubt. However there is a simple way to see if 'swaps' will work. Do the items look the same? If they do, unscrew both and see if the threads on the spindles are the same, if the unbroken knob fits the OM-2 just swap the complete item. If the knobs are not interchangeable, you may just be able to swap the flip out handle. To unscrew the rewind knobs just place a suitable piece of metal in the fork on end of spindle and then unscrew the knob anti- clockwise - or remove screw in center of knob, if knob retained this way. |

Thanks for your answer Glenn! I haven't actually bought the camera yet (told a little fib, sorry!), so I'm unable to test it out, I have some good pictures of it and I will try and compare these with the OM-30 I have when I get a minute, this OM-2 is a damn good price though, everything else is fine, just the winder handle.... just wondering if there's some specific reason it wouldn't work, i.e. because the mode selector is under the rewinder on an OM-30 and not on an OM-2.... so there could be something different there... |

Let me know if you need either the rewind knob complete or just the crank (handle). Believe I have both! Art @ www.flcamerarepair.com |

I'm guessing that the OM30 part will not match. I have an OMG (OM20, I think) which I think shared the body construction with the OM30, and its rewind knob is made differently from the OM2. Any OM1, 1N, 2 or 2N should be able to donate the parts though. |

Bossman seems to be one of those good old repair techs, who always have a veritable gold mine of spares. Sadly these establishments have all but disappeared in this throw away era, so perhaps he will be your cheapest way to a nice complete OM2. |
