Hopefully someone can help me here! I have a Minolta SRT200 that I have used twice in the last year. The shutter no longer snaps shut and I have to advance the film in order to get it to close properly. I have taken it to a professional place in town who tells me I have to pay around $160 to get it repaired and that apparently the camera I bought isn't that great anyway and I was probably rooked. I contacted the people who sold me the camera who proceeded to insult the professionals I went to and said they will look at the camera but it was only guaranteed for 90 days. What should I do? I start my photography class in less than a week.

Please contact me directly at Jon_Goodman@yahoo.com. This is very common, and to solve this problem, you only need a small screwdriver to remove the bottom plate and a small drop of light oil. Years ago I prepared 2 annotated images which explain just what to do. When you contact me, put something in the reference line like "SRT Shutter Repair Images" and I will be happy to send them to you.

Onochi181: Jon Goodman gave you good advise....let me add this: due to the age of the camera, you may need to increase the tension on the second curtain....a simple matter in SRT's. After you remove bottom plate, turn the brass curtain adj'mt post closest to the front, counter-clockwise about 1/2 turn and re-try the shutter. These adj'mt posts are at extreme left side of bottom area with camera lens mount towards you

I have an old Minolta XG-1 with a stuck shutter open and I am unable to advance the film. I can close the shutter manually with the little lever just inside the front of the camera, but it will not stay closed. Is the fix the same as the posts above? Or is something else wrong? I would really appresiate any help.
