Hello. I recently acquired a Carl Zeiss Jena Triotar 1:4/13,5cm T lens, however I am unable to identify the mount. Please forgive my subpar photograph - my 2 megapixel camera has no depth of field control. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I searched completed fleabay auctions for similiar items... I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Carl-Zeiss-f-Leica-Screw-Mount-4-13-5cm-Triotar-couple_W0QQi temZ350058517397QQihZ022QQcategoryZ30063QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The serial number on my lens is only 205 removed from the one on fleabay.

So I am guessing it is the above lens...

So now that the mystery is solved... is this lens really 'rare' and worth upwards of a couple hundred dollars? For some reason, I find it hard to believe that the aforementioned seller was asking so much for this lens...

This seller is always very pricey, but the items always seem to be in very good condition - both cosmetically and optically. Whether these properties, make the lens worth approx £600+VAT in the UK is another matter entirely!

I would feel better using a Tessar or Sonnar and the price seems rediculous. I used a Triotar on an old rollie and found it very soft I have a colinar135 , it weighs a ton, all machined of brass. It may give a fair result but at what cost. I paid $30 American for it.

The correct terminology for the lens in question is LTM, the thread pitch is imperial (inch). The L39 mount is a different beast altogether, both diameter and pitch being metric. In many cases you find that L39 lenses will screw into a Leica body; however, you do find examples where machining tolerances work against this and the fit will be very tight. Adapting a LTM lens to M42 is a pretty useless exercise - no infinity focus and in most cases poor 'macro' capability. A reversed standard lens and extension rings will give far better magnification and coverage
