What is the metal used to make these parts? Is is aluminum? |

Top and bottom plates are usually stamped from semi-hard brass sheet, which is then chrome plated or painted. |

Brass. Stamped aluminum is not unheard of but it's not very common for camera top plates. It doesn't take chrome very well, and anodizing doesn't look as good or wear as well. |
