I just acquired a Minolta SRT 202 but it had something in the viewfinder. After disassembling it (can't afford to take it anywhere), I found that the viewfinder has glue or something between the glass (plastic?) pieces that make it up. The local camera shop will sell me a 'parts camera' for $20, but I can't afford that. Does anyone have a viewfinder for sale or know where I can get one for like $5?

Thanks!

Dave

A parts camera for $20 is a good deal! There is a cheap solution to your viewfinder problem if you don't mind using a strong chemical solvent and buying some glass cement. The total cost will probably be at least $5.

...a cheap solution? I'm listening.... Does this involve breaking apart the viewfinder?

The 'cheap' solution has a chance of working only if the viewfinder frame is made of metal. On some models the frame was plastic.

Mine is plastic... [sigh] Maybe I can put the parts camera on layaway...

Thanks!

I've probably repaired over 1000 SRT's and have never seen vf lenses cemented together!! Tell me more because I think you are mistaken.

The guy at the camera shop said he thinks it is the original factory glue, and that it has "failed" over the years. There is a distinct smear as if it were wiped by a fingertip. Front and back are clean, the material is in between.

We are talking about the eyepiece, right? There is definitely no "factory glue" there. Or is your problem deeper inside the two-element plastic Fresnel lens, that is the one that creates the picture you see when looking through the eyepiece?

The "viewfinder" is not so easy to describe in an SLR, I guess.

I tried to take apart the old viewfinder after replacing it, and broke it. The piece closest to your eye is plastic and very thin. The actual lens is glass, and glued to the plastic piece before being glued into the (plastic) frame.
