I've got it down to here: I'd like to take the cover (outlined in red) off, but the shutter cocking lever (outlined in blue)won't let me. Any suggestions? |

When i did mine I couldn't either so popped off the bauble and was able to wrestle off the cover finally. Don't know how the real tech.s do it. |

Unscrew the knob on the shutter cocking lever. Otherwise you'll never get it off. Good luck. Watch out for the self-timer in the D. Once these go out, they must be removed in order for the camera to ever work again as the split washer that breaks is a very specific part which can not be found nor duplicated (without very specialized equipment and a great deal of trial/error). The knob on the shutter cocking lever is a LEFT HAND screw. Turn it clockwise to remove it.

Nice to know, Rick. I was about half convinced it was riveted on there. |
