Hi I'm looking longingly at a Fujita Haco 66 (same as Fujita 66 and Kalimar Reflex as far as I can tell). These are early Japanese 6x6 reflex SLRs from the 50's. Trouble is the one I'm looking at has the cloth focal plane shutter blinds separated from disentegrated tapes. I've been told its an expensive and difficult-labour intensive repair that involves dismantling the camera entirely and not worth it. Does anyone have any clues on this potential project? Should I leave it well alone? Or buy the camera and plunge in. I believe Rick Oleson may have a view on this. Thanks |

Why don't you check out Rick's repair page on these? It is all there. |

Good idea, I didn't know there was one. I had a look and couldn't see anything. I'll check again. Thanks |

Here is a link. The repair link is on the bottom of that page: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-36.html |

Yes, found that Tom and very interesting it is too, thanks. However, I would still be grateful for an opinion on how hard this operation is - the re-attachment of a cloth curtain to new tapes (which have to be installed). I've done a view repairs on fairly simple cameras but nothing A League and I'm curious to know what it would take - basically whether or not its a nightmare lurking. |

I'd like to know that too. I have a mint condition Reflex on the shelf that doesn't shoot. Nice website but, eeewwww, that looks like more than I want to get into. |

I have never reattahed or replaced the curtains in the Fujita/Kalimar, I can't tell you anything specifically about that. I have replaced curtains in other cameras, and I've had the Kalimar far enough apart to reach the curtains, so between the two I might be able to patch together some sort of advice. Drop me an email at [email protected] , I can at least send you some higher-resolution sketches than what you can get off of my website. |

Thanks Rick, I'll do that, much appreciated. I had a repair man tell me it is a huge job that involves completely dismantling the camera. Now thats fine as long as its only medium level difficulty and doesn't require special tools. Cheers |

well, it is a pretty big job, you don't want to pay a repairman for that much work.... |
