I came across a like new Dakota SLR with zoom lens at a pawn shop, made in Japan not China, which someone has buggered up. It's probably made by Cosina, Chinon or someone like that. It has a PK lens mount. Someone has buggered it up in this way, the shutter button won't budge, the film advance won't advance, the rewind button is still depressed and the self timer lever is halfway between up and down. I can probably pick it up for $25, BUT, do you think it's possible to remove the bottom plate and release the shutter by moving some cams and cam locks manually? I don't think it's an electronic shutter, so changing the batteries may not do a thing but perhaps it's something to try before I make an offer. At this point I'm not sure which model it is, other than to say it's all black and as I said like new. I'll do some research to try and find out which model it is. Any guesses out there? |

Two things: 1. put a battery in it and see if it comes back to life. 2. $25. for a messed up no-name camera? Are you kidding? I'll sell you one of my working slrs for that price. |

Suggest the camera might have been buggered up when the self timer was operated at wrong time. If this is the case the repair could be more than just an unjamming operation - I have no knowledge of this particular model, but have seen incorrect self timer operation produce simple jams on some cameras and serious problems on others.
You may be lucky and get a bargain for $25, on the other hand you may find you have a rather expensive paperweight! |
