I have a Contaflex 1 which is in good condition except for a front lens element that is hazy on the outer surface. I am currently testing the camera with film, but I am not confident that the photos will not be affected by the haze. I am also not confident that I can polish off the haze (it looks like the coating has discolored).
My question is, what are the chances of finding a "spare" front lens element? Could the front lens element from a Contaflex with removable lenses (such as a Contaflex 126) be used to replace the original?
The lens is a Carl Zeiss 45/2.8 tessar.

Hi, Wayne.
The Contaflex I and II had a tendency to fall prey to fungus. That haziness you see can not be fixed. You can substitute the front element only from another Contaflex I or II, but they were matched at the factory, and so you might lose some ground by doing that. Good luck. As you suspected, the photos might not be affected. I'd see before I started doing any surgery...
Jon
