I just got a Minolta Hi-matic 9 with a bashed in back. I have another Hi-m 9 with a loose front barrel. I figure I'll transplant the backs of these two. Do I just use brute force to tap out the rod in the hingeplate? Or is there a technique with more finesse?
Thanks!

I opened mine up and it loks like I can see four little pins adjacent to the take up spool which could be screws or rivets. I suggest peeling back the leatherette to see if you can see screws or rivets holding the hinge on before tapping.

Usually there are screws under the leatherette on a strip the camera side of the hinge, but rivets could happen, too. Never bothered to peel the leatherette away on my 9 to look, and I can't find it now.

Thanks Charlie and Mndean. Good advice--I was about to bash ahead, but will examine more carefully and let you know!

This is to confirm that Charlie and Mndean were correct: On the body side of the camera hinge area, four screws under the leatherette anchor the hinge plate to the camera side. These came off with relative ease after applying penetrating lubricant. Hats off to Charlie & Mndean: You saved a lot of trauma to a camera!

Glad to see another 9 going to get back in action. It is a nice RF camera, albeit big.
