I'm brainstorming here for useful ideas on what to do with the lens mount from an unrepairable slr camera like a Canon or Pentax, etc. It was easy enough to figure a mount could be put at the end of a tubular piece of pipe to make something like an extension tube but what other useful projects/uses can a lens mount from a camera body be put to? If someone comes up with a truly good useful idea I will be happy to reward them with my Kiev 35. |

I toyed with the idea of using the lens mount from an old Minolta and retrofitting it to a lens board for my Omega enlarger. I needed a 50mm lens, but I found a Schneider Componon lens for $10, so the retrofit is no longer necessary. I also though about making my own adapter to fit on a DSLR, but since these are pretty easy to find, it's probably not worth the effort. The only one that could be useful is for brands such as Konica, where adapters are scarce. |

Based upon the idea of the extension tube maybe it would be a easier to use it on a macro bellows. For using e.g. Canon lenses on a different body for macro works. That spares you the necessity to find something suitable for the camera end as you would need it with tubular device (screw mounts excluded). You can also put it on a lens board of a LF (View)camera to make e.g. an easy to swap pinhole board by using a body cap with a hole drilled in it's center with the pinhole mounted behind the hole (very much like Lenox Laser's pinhole devices for SLRs). No shutter needed. You can also use differnt sizes of pinholes for different "focal" lengths this way. Just swap the body cap. (Of course building a complete pinhole camera around it would be an option). You can also mount it to a holder (or grip) to use a reversed lens a magnifying glass when working on a camera. I also remember a website that showed how to convert a P&S digital camera to be used with exchangable lenses. If needed I can try to find the link. Finally you can also mount it to a board to be used as simple lens holders for diplaying lenses. Regards from Austria Martin |

When using a lens on a reversing ring for close-ups, the spare lens mount could be used as a filter holder - fix a step-up ring with the appropriate filter size to the 'camera side' of the spare lens mount. Same idea for mounting a ring flash. |
