I am trying to access the shutter blades in my Rollie 35. The blades are sticky and slow. I have tried injecting with a syringe a little naphtha into the top of the actuation shaft which helped. When this dried it appeared to need a little oil, which I also injected. However this has not helped. Now I fear I will need to access the shutter blades for a proper cleaning.
From the rear I can remove the lens retaining ring but the lens seems to be cemented in place. Can I remove this lens or will I have to access the blades from the front? Also any advise on lubrication of the shutter shaft would be appreciated

Are you sure it is the blades that are oily? Usually it is the slow speed gear that is gummed up. To get at the gears you would need to take the top off. |

Hi, and thanks for the replies. I was finally able to remove the lens by soaking the edges with a cleaning solution and then knocking it lose with the palm of my hand. I know, but it was a last resort.
The blades were a little gummed from repeated cleaning of the actuation shaft. The blades still will not return fully from its spring pressure only, however this is no longer a problem. The root problem was a slightly bent shutter striking arm that may have been damaged from retracting the lens with out winding the shutter. I have corrected this and now the shutter is functioning at all speeds. I did clean the slow speed gearing and had to remove a piece of broken film that was jamming the gearing. So finally I now have a seemingly fully functioning early model made in Germany, Rollie 35. |
