Hi Forum, 1st time here. Just picked up a Spotmatic that needs new seals and foam. The mirror bumper is gunge and the mirror was sticking a little. The problem is that the viewfinder has a black horizontal line in the middle(running east/west) which I guess is maybe due to some gunk. Can I easily clean this or will it need a more professional touch. I've already downloaded everything about removing the top plate. cheers |

is this line VERY disturbing (like a thick marker), or is it just a fine thing you could oversee, or even use for keeping your horizon level? Cleaning focusing screen is tricky at least. The botom side is moulded into very fine structure, that can be permanently damaged by even a stronger touch. It is not glass, but optical plastic. While you can clean it using e.g. ultrasonic cleaner and non-aggressive detergent, it requires removal of the said screen and thus often a complete stripdown of the camera. Marek |

Hi Marek, you are correct, its like a thick marker, I guess I could use it for keeping the horizon level?? I actually bought this camera to practice dismantling, as my original sp1000 is in need of a reseal and lube so i thought I would use this one for practice. It was cheap. It's unmarked on the outside and quite clean. haven't tested the meter tho. i have a guy here in HK that i could leave it with if I was really keen to get it fixed. Cheers. |
