I am restoring a Rolleicord II Type 1 which is in very bad condition. The camera is in working order but a very poor state,so much so that the viewing mirror has lost all relective coating and gives no reflectin at all.If anyone has a mirror that they do not need and will fit,or indeed any advice I would very much like to hear their thoughts.

You might be able to use a mirror from a Polaroid One Step
These can usually be found at flea mkts, thrift and junque stores. The cameras are not really usable due to the lack of film.

Thank you Francis thats a good option but I am not familiar Polaroids.Will I have to cut the mirror in any way and would this be an easy task.I am guessing that these mirrors are either glass or polished metal.

If the mirror from a Yashica Mat 124G will fit, I think I have one.

Karl;
If the Yashica mat mirror doesn't work out the Polaroid One Step is a glass front surface mirror and although I have never done it it looks easy to do. You might even find a willing glazier to do it.

Waynemel;
I don't know the size or mirror shape of the Yashica Mat 124G,but I can tell you the shape of the mirror on the Rollicord is trapezoid.With the two sloping sides 60mm in length and the two parallel sides 50mm and 27mm,respectively.

Karl:

The Yashica Mat mirror dimensions are:
two sloping sides - 58mm
other sides - 30mm and 50mm
over all length is 57.5mm

If you think this will work, send me a PM and we can work out he shipping details.

Surplus Shed also has a whole bunch of RETICLE ILLUMINATION MIRRORs which is the type you need for this purpose - range of sizes all very cheap $2-5. I put one in a Refleckta II and it worked a treat.

To measure a mirror, just measure the top and bottom edges and the height in the center.

Here you can see how i last time cut a Polaroid mirror. I used a Dremel tool with a special glass cutting disc.

Cutting a Polaroid mirror

Be carefull because this method produces a lot of glass dust.
