I just picked up a beautiful Lynx 5000 but the battery compartment was lightly corroded. Only the metal contact had the typical blue/green corrosion on it and the rest of the compartment is clean. What is the best way to clean the corrosion off of the contacts? Will it still operate ok or do I need to replace some parts? Thank you! |

The blue green stuff comes off with a Q-Tip damped in lighter fluid. You can also use rubbing alcohol. Others may suggest vinegar. Be sure to get the screw threads clean (it is a screw on battery cover, right?). |

Yes, it is a screw on. The battery cover and every thing else is clean with the exception of the battery contact inside the battery compartment. Many thanks! |

I have had good luck with the CRC QD Electronics Cleaner and Q-tips. I have also, in more severe cases, kissed it with a Dremel tool and a small wire brush. It doesn't take very much "tapping" with the brush. Good luck. |

I have used a fiberglass bristle brush for cleaning off battery corrosion for many years and it works well. My original brush was sold in camera stores under the Hama brand, but I now have found a good substitute in the 3M Spot Sanding Pen. This tool has a lot of uses in cleaning contacts and corrosion on cameras and electronics. |

Is the 3M sanding pen available in hardware stores or would a better bet be at an auto parts store? I would like to pick one up, but not sure the best place to look for one. Thanks |
