There is a button right on top of some of the compur shutters on things like the Bessa I. I was just sent a camera with that button broken off. I've got the button but see no way it can be reattached. That said, I've been using these things for years and have never used that button and have never really seen any use for it. Does anyone here have an idea what that button is for? Is it worth replacing?

F:

I found this photo, is this what you are talking about?

I am going to take a SWAG, & if I am wrong some of the others here will probably know & correct me, I'm sure.
Looking at the photo, it looks like a stop or blocking shield that requires to be moved to load the shutter into the 200th/sec speed range. You can see it real clear in this photo, if that is what you have than check it out & see if I am right or BUZZ wrong call.

The Best Mike.....

The button that Mike has pointed out in the photo is the blocking lever for "V", or self timer operation. When the button is pushed toward the camera, it allows the shutter cocking lever to travel a bit further clockwise and it engages the self timer operation.

To complicate things a bit: when found on a rangefinder camera, this button is normally the self timer, or V control. But when found on a Compur shutter being used on a view camera, the button is generally (but not always)used to lock open the shutter blades for focusing. A casual glance at the shutter does not help identify which purpose the button is used for as the externals are very similar.
