The shutter sticks on my K1000, I know how to fix but wanted to know if there's a way to keep it from happening...oiling it maybe?

What exactly you mean by "shutter sticks" ?
I believe it needs full description of the symptom to get useful responses.
It is not always oiling that solves problems. Unnecessary oiling can cause more problems. Remember oil creeps slowly over a long period to varius undesired places and causes more problems if not done correctly. Refrain from oiling unless you are sure.

Oiling is almost always the wrong answer. Cleaning and proper lubrication might be one of hte answers but you really must be prepared to take the camera apart to determine the proper remedy. As said above, "Refrain from oiling unless you are sure."
