I have a Canon AE-1 that I would like to replace the leather on. I only have done it one time with my Yashica FX-3 that was very simple to do, but the Canon looks a bit harder. Looks like the film tab holder is over the rear door leather. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Remove it and sling it, who needs the useless thing anyway. Tape over the resulting holes with adhesive aluminium tape and the recover with the replacement leather or vinyl.

Obviously you have no experience of A Series cameras or the film packaging used in the 1980's. Do you have a genuine use for this site, apart from posting spurious junk links?

That's just another spammer, Glenn. I'll notify Margaret.

Yes I know, but occasionally I like to vent my spleen at these inconsiderate buggers!

Glenn, the very fact they are inconsiderate negates any good you might do by venting at them. They obviously don't care how you feel about it. I just ignore 'em and report 'em. They hate it when they are ignored. All that time wasted getting into the system, and nothing to show for it. But I love it when Margaret kicks them off.

Note to others: Glenn's second response to this thread was not to the OP, but to a spammer, of which that post has been removed by the Administrator. It is better to report incidents of spammers than to answer their posts, or to click on any links they leave.

Cactus: I believe that the AE-1 is one of the cameras that Morgan Sparks, at Camera Leather, offers a kit for. The kits are precut, self-sticking and very easy to install. This is a link for Camera Leather: http://www.cameraleather.com/others/ The alternative is to buy some very thin leatherette or leather, measure very carefully and then cut and glue your own. It isn't hard to do, but it will require some special tools and a lot of careful deliberation if you want to do a good job.

Well, he also makes kits for a lot of Yashicas.
