Hi, I just got a used Yashica FX-103 that seems to have a shutter problem. I put in fresh batteries, and the battery indicator shows the batteries are fresh. But problem is, the shutter always fires at a rather fast (and always the same) speed, regardless of what I set. It also does not stay open in B mode. That, and all my images have shading on the bottom (mirror returning too soon?). See bottom black bar on attached photo. thanks a lot in advance!

I have worked on a small number of these but it has been at least ten to twelve years ago. My memory is that there are several electomagnets in this model, more than most. My best guess is that the shutter release magnet is working but the shutter timing magnet is not. I can't find repair information on it so you probably won't either. If you have a good lens or two, the FX-D would be a good alternative to look for, or even a Contax 139. |
