Look at my own question about servicing this lens posted on 7-10. |

Some follow-up information. For photo illustrated instructions for cleaning and lubing Serenar 50/1.9, search for Justin Low's Leica Summitar repair information (I used Google). The Summitar f2 looks very much like the Serenar f1.9. Serenar 50/1.9 is first lens I have lubricated focus helical without taking lens apart. When focused at infinity, you can clean much of the helical. I lubed with lithium grease. By working it in and cleaning it off several times, I now have a relatively smooth focusing lens. I can use it now, but plan to clean it more thoroughly when I get time. Another tip. Infinity lock was not working on the Serenar. It's easier to take apart than the Summitar. Just use a screwdriver and turn counter-clockwise. My lens did not have a spring, so I made one by cutting a small piece of a ballpoint pen spring. After cleaning and lubing, the infinity focus works perfectly. |
