Just a guess, but it could be for adjusting the rangefinder. |

Thank you Waynemel.
When I open the camera backdoor, there is a little screw inside a screwed hole, just under the rangefinder window above the film rail.
Which of these is for vertical adjustment? |

As it looks the one behind the backdoor is for horizontal alignment.

And under the plug on top is the vertical alignment?
So, I have not to remove the leatherette?
Is that correct?

I don't have a 500 GX and never had one nor worked on one so that I can only repeat what Werner, who obviousely has a lot of expereince with those cameras has written:

To me that indicates that the screw for vertical alignment can be reached without removing the top cover or the leatherette with some versions of the GX.
Others here might know better.
