I took this camera apart recently to free a jammed shutter and mirror, and in the process I removed the cocking lever seat assembly. I used a U-shaped stiff wire to hold the spring in place on the seat, as recommended by the manual, but while I was lifting the seat off the shaft, the wire slipped out and the spring unwound. I have some arthritis in my hands, so I’m having a heck of a time getting a grip and turning the seat while I wind the spring back into its slot—all the while wearing cotton gloves so I don’t get oil and sweat on the spring, which the repair manuals say will cause the spring to rust fast.
Is there an easier way to wind that spring than holding the seat by hand? I was thinking of some kind of mount with a big screw in a block of wood to hold the seat, or something like that. Any ideas, suggestions? |
