Aperture won't close set to auto or manual on this FD 50mm 1.4 lens, its later button lock type not the early snug fit type. On manual I set it to f22 or anywhere else and stays wide open? Tried the 28mm and 70-210 canons and worked perfect. I tried taping it a few times lightly on the table with filter down, nothing. I'm sure this A-1 set was setting along time as it all looks like new so could it have froze? Or lever locked up? Do I need to remove the back end? Fun |

If the lens has been idle for a long time with the blades fully open (as it would be on a camera), they may have stuck together with oil. This is not uncommon with any brand of lenses.
You go in the front. I have notes on the 50/1.8 bayonet FD, which hopefully is similar enough for the notes to be useful. [email protected] for a copy. |

Thanks Rick. Since I checked my other lenses this afternoon, turns out the very new looking 28-85 Tokina was the same, not closing. I tested them all on the Canon F-1 and the Tokina after a few trys started to move in slow motion and faster as I kept triggering the shutter, but no hope so far with the 50mm 1.4 , I'll hate to open it up but guess theres no other way, might try on a real warm day and leave it on 'B' to see if it will release, but sounds like that wouldn't be a lasting remedy if oils in there?
