Hello all,

Today, I removed the top of my Vito IIa to clean the viewfinder, and had an OOPS! moment.

I saw two narrow, flat metal springs with a slight curve lying on the bench - they had escaped while I was lifting the top up and off and I did not notice where they came from ...

I'm sure think they hold something in place, but what??

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

Wild guess - they're not from the flash shoe, are they?

Thanks for the guess, but alas, I don't think so. The shoe is a holder only, with no electrical contacts.

Also, these didn't fall out until I removed the top. Daggone it, I wish I have been paying more attention...

The accessory shoe still needs something to hold stuff in place, and thus the use of flat springs. Otherwise, your accessories will just slide out onto the ground when you tilt the camera towards you. Give it another look.

AHA!!!!!

A zillion Thank Yous to you both!

I did look again, and then immediately saw what you meant when I looked at the shoe on my Vitomatic II.

The springs are back in place, thanks to your wisdom and patience.

I found one of those springs in the carpet one day, and now I have to inventory my cameras to find out which one is missing it.

I'll let you work out what made me guess that, JM!

Adrian

(Werras, for some reason, didn't always have those two springs, and as a result have dubiously floppy accessory shoes)
