Hi,
I've managed to remove the front two elements of this lens using a spanner wrench but I can't figure out how to remove the next element. It looks to be sitting behind a lip that doesn't appear to be a retaining ring. Can anyone say how to proceed? Are there perhaps grub screws beneath the sliding lenshood? |

This is not intended as a criticism but removing the front glass on a telephoto lens is not always the best way to go. I haven't worked on this Zuiko but other models similar to it. Try setting the lens to minimum focus and look on the upper barrel for a recessed grub screw. Removing this screw, if present, should permit the outer tube to be unscrewed and it will slide beneath the focusing collar. The lens shade and the top tube should now be removable revealing the front optical cell. This unit generally unscrews when the grub screw(s) holding it in place are slackened. Scribe its position. Sometimes the seating surface of the optical unit is fastened with screws the heads of which are secured with shake-free wires, don't touch them, it is not necessary in removing the whole front optics. |

Hello again,
Had a look for a grub screw but no joy. There are two grub screws a half inch apart beneath the rubber focusing grip. I undid those but it didn't seem to have any effect. The rubber was partially glued down and I didn't want to damage it so didn't look any further. There may be another one or two lurking there somewhere. |

Well sorry your lens is not going better , but at least I learned something. I had to do a search to discover what a "grub" screw is --- It is a non US term for a set screw! Amazing . |

Sorry can't be much more help but did a quick search and found this site, olympus.dementix.org/Hardware/. Tab down to the lens section and there is a 4 page pdf file for this 300mm. |
