I have a takumar 135mm 3.5 lens in like new condition, but the aperture action is very slow. Could this be because it was sitting unused for to long, or does it need taken apart and cleaned? |

The lubrication has gone "gunky" in the internal ring that holds the iris blades. Sometimes this grease will come out onto the blades and, other times, it won't. |

Just work it and see how it goes. Like the above poster said, are the blades oily? If so they'll probably need cleaned to get them working freely and to prevent the oil from dripping onto the glass. If they aren't oily, just work it and see what happens. If it's dried grease often times it will loosen up as you use it. If it needs cleaned it shouldn't be too hard; I don't have one in front of me but there is not much too these older manual manual focus lens making them easy to clean mechanically. |

Well if it is really grease/oil, the best way is to remove all glass and clean the aperture blades by pouring in some lighter fluid. The blade assembly is much difficult to work with if dismantled fully. The blades are too delicate and likely to get damaged and any corrective action is next to imposible.
Shutters and aperture blades r meant to work without lubrication. |
