Needle on light meter jumping around erratically- though averaging gives acceptable exposure on negatives.
Low light conditions usually works well.
Previous owner had it recalibrated for 1.5 volt, rather than the 1.35 volt battery system- when it seems the problems started. He then sent it back to be repaired on 2 occassions- major expense!
I have someone looking at it- though don't feel comfortable.
Any suggestions?

Do you know what they did to "recalibrate" it? If that's when the problems started, it might be the cause. Sounds like there's a bad connection somewhere. There are no adjustable resistors in the OM1 meter; if someone added a variable resistor to effect the adjustment, that could be the place to look. |

The OM1 has a plastic screw securing the contact in the battery case. Sometimes the head breaks off the screw, and the loose contact can cause these symptoms. Tomosy's "Camera Maintenance and Repair" book one covers the repair of this. |

Another known area of problems with OM-1 meters is the grounding screw for the meter movement. This has been mentioned as a source of 'intermittent meter' and 'no meter' failures. I think this is located next to the prism once you remove the top of the camera... a screw and surrounding area that needs to be cleaned of any dirt or corrosion and the screw tightened securely. |
