Just bought a Nikon F2as. Everything works perfect but the film transport lever moves not as smooth as with my Nikon F3 and FE.
A certified Nikon mechanic (experienced with mechanical Nikons) checked it and told me everthing is fine and he cannot do anything about it.
What is your opinion? Is this guy just lazy or do I have to live with this shortfall? |

I've used most manual focus Nikon bodies from Nikkormats FT, FTn, FT2, FT3, EL, the F, F2, F3, FM, FM2, FM2n, FEm FE2, FG, EM. I had 3 F3s and they were smoother winding than any other Nikon MF body, period, even brand new ones compared to user F3s. So, for the F3, I don't think the others can match it.

tested and true baby, you can possibly fall in love with f3 smoothnes winding and shutter, I used a lot of MF cameras and now f3 is my doll. Sorry for that Toby, but you can't smoothen something not ment to be smooth. |

I agree there are some camera technicians who deserve to be "certified" ;-)
However - I have owned my Nikon F2AS since new (in 1977). It's film advance/transport is not as silky as my Nikon FE ... but it is nevertheless well engineered and will probably come as close as cameras come to "lasting forever".
