Does anyone have experience in removing the focussing screen of a Minolta XD/XD7/XD11 for cleaning? Thanks!

I was just about to write a similar question. In my XD7, small particles from the mirror stop foam have become embedded in the micro-groves in the bottom face of the screen. Trying to gently wipe them out with a Q-tip soaked in lighter fluid and then alcohol didn't produce any result. What next?

Ezio, the dirt is on the underside of the prism. That is, sandwiched between the prism and the focussing screen. Therefore the screen has to be removed for proper cleaning.

I have done it! In the top of the mirror box there is a crescent cutting. Remove the two screws inside and remove the black crescent cover and the focussing screen retainer beneath. The focussing screen can now be removed. There are no springs beneath the screen. Clean the screen as well as the underside of the pentaprism for best results. Note that the 2 screws are rather tight. Get a good screw driver to do the job.
In the process of removing the focussing screen retainer the mirror foam will likely be damaged. It is best to replace it with 2 short ones of 1.5cm long, one at each end.
