My Olympus OM-1 fires fine at all shuter speeds, except on 'B'. When set to 'B', shutter sometimes opens permanently (as on a 'T' setting) and can only be closed by setting the shutter speed dial to 1s, at other times it will fire at 1/60s.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Jan

not sure, but the timing goodies are under the floor of the mirror box: to reach them, just peel off the 2 little velvet strips along the bottom edges and lift the floor out. there is a gear at the front that engages the shutter speed ring; this has a little index hole in it which should be at the front-center position when the shutter is set to 1/1000. if it's been disassembled, they might have gotten this one tooth off and that might cause a problem. otherwise, set it at B and see if you can find the hangup.

Thanks Rick, I will give it a try and should I be successful, will report.

All the best,

Jan

Well....

I peeled off the velvet strips, lifted the floor and spent a good half an hour observing what happens when the shutter fires at various speed settings. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything unusual, all cam followers seem to follow their respective cams, there is nothing loose.

I am stumped.
