I recently bought a Pentax 6x7 with 105mm at a yard sale for very little. The previous owner (who seemed to not know much about it and called it a Pentax 645) said there was a problem with the film advance.

When I got it home I checked it out and the film advance was indeed erratic (sometimes worked and sometimes not).

Then I remembered there was a trick with setting the shutter on this camera when it had no film loaded (open back, advance frame counter, close back). I tried this trick and the advance and shutter have worked fine ever since. It seems to work perfectly now.

Could this have been all that was wrong with it? That is, it just needed this trick to reset the advance mechanism?
