I have a Canon FL/FD 50mm 1:3.5 Macro lens with a stuck Breechlock Ring. It seems to be out of alignment as the silver screw on the inside of the lens (under the lock ring) is not aligned with the red dot on the lock ring, as a consequence the lens will not fit snug/flush on the camera body and will not turn to lock (as with my other FD lenes)Can anyone offer any assistance please? |

There could be two possibilities. With the rear of lens facing you and silver location screw at 12 o'clock. Turn the breech ring anti-clockwise as far as it will go. Set f16 and make sure the aperture signal and stop-down levers move to the end of their respective slots - when you push them. Pay particular attention to the signal lever (slot at 9-10 o'clock. If the signal pin does not have full travel, then problem is the linkage inside the barrel. You will have to strip and clean the internal mechanism.
With a FD lens set on the green auto circle; rotating the breech ring over it's complete travel, will move the signal lever from one end of slot to the other - if all is OK.
If levers have full travel, then problem is with the breech ring stop. Remove the two retaining screws and unscrew the breech ring. You can then examine the stop etc for damage.
On the few lenses I have seen with this problem, it has been the internal aperture mechanism that was at fault. |
