Topcon, in its infinite wisdom, made the rewind lock button on the bottom of the D-1 SLR (same as RE-2) mushroom-shaped, so that the bottom plate cannot be removed unless this button comes off first. Does anyone know if it is right or left-hand threaded? I don't want to damage the part.

I got the answer by risking unscrewing the part. For the information of future Topcon RE-2/D-1 explorers, the rewind lock button unscrews counter-clockwise, with a standard thread. You will need to grip it with some type of pin vise or rubber-covered tool to avoid marring the chrome finish.
