I have a Graflex XL Synchro-Compur sitting on my bench and I can't seem to get into the shutter. I have the rear cell out, the shutter is off the camera.

The front "cell" isn't coming out as one piece, it has a front element and a mid element, which I can't get out, above the shutter blades once I remove the name ring. I was wondering if the entire front cell is suposed to come out in one piece (the threaded barrel in the center of the top side of the shutter) or is there a way to get that center element out?

The other thing is I can't see, how the shutter is accessed since I can't get the first ring above the shutter speed dial off.

Anyone have any input on this?

It should come out as 1 piece, just like most view camera lenses. A few drops of lighter fluid may assist the threads on the cell.

Once the optics are removed completely, you will see how to get the rings off.

Now that's my problem, the front cell doesn't look like or come out as one piece. There is a name ring on the front of the lens which comes off quite easy adn an element comes out with another below it that has a gray metal flange around it and won't budge.

The center of the shutter is a threaded barel where these elements sit inside of. I thought I might be able to twist that entire threaded barel out as the front cell but it won't budge. I am looking how the black ring above the speed ring comes out and I just can't see how it will come off. I tried twisting that but it won't budge.

The puzzeling part is it looks like a typical Compur shutter except it's larger. Should be a piece of cake.

I'll try and get some pics to show ya.

Well back to the drawing board.

Cool, pictures would help. The black ring may have a retaining screw. Just a thought...

OK I got it out. The center threaded barrel is the front cell. I took off the name ring, took out the front element then made 2 slots at the edges. I put a straight edge accross and twisted it out using some brute force to break it loose.

The black ring with the F stop n speeds on it is held in with 3 small screws, then the usual half moon gets turned to release the retaining ring. I'm in.

Pics to follow. This was a tough one!
