There are decomposed foam pieces around the camera, and while i was trying to get them out, they smeared onto the prism. I know this doesn't affect the image, but i was wondering if there was a way i could get rid of the smear. It's annoying to look at through the viewfinder. (it's a rather large smear)
Is there anything i can do?

If you have the patience and tools---- dissasemble and apply a small amount of ronsonol lighter fluid on a cotton swab and gentle wipe off the smear. |

i'm guessing they actually smeared onto the focusing screen, since that's in between you and the prism. Morgan's advice is probably still best, but the bottom of the screen is covered with fine grooves that will want to catch the crud and not let go, and you may find that after a point you're just pressing it into the grooves. In some cameras the screen comes out for a thorough cleaning, but the AE-1 isn't one of those I'm afraid... |

Yes, and no. It will make your focusing screen a little darker, and so precise focusing may be somewhat more difficult, especially in dim light, but as you say in your first post this will of course not affect picture quality, W. |
