Oooh, I could have sobbed!
This morning, on the local tat market, I found a pre-war Ensign Autorange, Ross Xpres lens, Compur-Rapid shutter - and some git had removed the rangefinder!
Why on earth would anyone do that? I'd have snapped it up straight away otherwise - but why buy a rangefinder camera without the rangefinder?
A somewhat gutted Adrian
(besides, it's the closest I'll get to an Autorange 820!) |

Just a guess, but if the Ensign uses the same window as both range and viewfinder, and if the rangefinder was either broken or damaged by fungus, it might have made sense (ok, maybe almost made sense) to gut the rangefinder to the offending blur, though I found with a similar problem on a Voigtlander that it's easier just to blank out the rangefinder window on the front. |

Unscrewed and lost, I think, Mike, but WHY? I wondered what the weird flat plate on the top was,and no viewfinder, and had to have a good poke round to find the maker's name on the camera - which was when realisation dawned.
