I bought a Telex Caramate 4000, which takes a DDM bulb (80w @ 19v). That bulb died, and I had another bulb on hand, but its much higher power: EJV, which is 21v @ 150w. I put it in the projector and it works fine. The slides look brighter, and I ran the projector for about 5 minutes and it didn't seem to get noticably hotter than usual.

I'm wondering what the danger is, if any?

The problems you could encounter are overheating and you could also damage the wireing, the new bulb draws almost twice the current.

I just checked the Sylvania Photo and AV cataloge (1986). There is no listing for a substitute for the DDM.
