Can anyone help me with removal of the top of the Canon 7s? the meter is not working - it shows no response at all.

You may wish to refer to the repair manual for Canon 7 available here in this site. Some years ago I have also repaired a 7Sz by referring to this manual. I cannot exactly remember how I did it but I succeeded. Pay attention to the CdS cell window and the flash socket on the rewind side. A failed meter is often caused by a rotten battery wire. ;-) |

The shutter speed dial is tricky to remove. There are three set-screws you want to loosen, not remove. One (the longer one) is always accessible. The other two are only accessible at one extreme of the ASA speed dial or the other. Those two you can't loosen very far, else the ASA dial will hit them. The long one is long to prevent the ASA dial from rotating more than 180 degrees relative to the shutter speed dial.
Also, note EXACTLY a combination of shutter speed, ASA setting, and f-stop ring over the meter location. You need to time the ASA gear to the f-stop ring correctly when reassembling. |
