i'm unable to open the metax shutter on this camera. i've tried to unscrew the outer bayonet collar, as well as the beauty ring which has two small holes, presumably to accomodate a spanner. am i going about this the wrong way? a previous post in the archives suggests i'm on the right track, but nothing is budging. maybe it's reverse threaded (i.e. unscrews clockwise)? any help appreciated.

Hi. I think you are on the right track.

Flexaret lenses are often extremely stiff to open. Recently I tried to open the front element of a Flexaret VI taking lens, but the retaining ring with ''Belar'' written on it withstood all my efforts. Finally I soaked it twice for a night in aceton, which might finish off the coating, but I could get clean the fungus in between the lens elements. The barrel inside the lens was painted black and the paint glued the glass elements together. This came off in aceton.

All the rings unscrew normally (anticlockwise). To take the whole shutter-lens unit apart you also need to unscrew the rear element of the lens inside the camera (may also be extremely stiff).
