The shutter release button stops and holds the linkage untill released as it should, but the shutter opens and closes as soon as you press the shutter button down not waiting for the linkage to get to the shutter closed position.

Thanks
Jay

Not to be rude, but if you are trying to operate the shutter on B, have you turned the collar around the shutter release button to the correct position?

I have one with the same problem. The button IS rotated to B, and the spring plate does contact the inside post of the shutter button - but the shutter has already gone through a full open/close cycle - instead of getting caught while open.
Not sure what the deal is here.

It should be possible to adjust that out, although you may find that the shutter blades are not quite 100% open when it's held open on the B setting. You have to remove the front cover to find the adjustment, which is around the cocking lever shaft.
