Does anybody have any familarity with the AE-1's sister, the nice but neglected AT-1?

The problem is that a previous "repairer" has ruined the tungsten coupling cord which has jumped the pulleys in the aperature registering mechanism that sits at the left handside of the mirror box. So I need to know how to remove this module and somehow rethread the wire around the spring-loaded pulley that lives down there. In this respect the AT-1 is quite different from the AE-1.

Incidentally, I have always had a good opinion of Canon gear, BUT that stranded tungsten wire is rubbish, a braided nylon or acetate rope would have been preferable. Which comes to my second point; what readily available material can successfully be substituted for the tungsten wire??

I would try high strength fishing line - i believe there are some with Kevlar or some similar fiber in them. I think the reason that they didn't use nylon or acetate is that these might stretch over time and lead to inaccurate readings.

There is a Canon AT-1 service repair guide that you can download at [www.canonfd.com/at1repairguide/at1servicerepairguide.pdf]

I have used the Kevlar line approach successfully.

Thanks guys, I'll check the local fishing store. Aford, that pdf file looks useful but it won't allow printing, can you provide a link on which printing is enabled?

Sorry, can't help you with a link for printing that pdf file. What you need is a program called a "screen capture" or "screen grabber" that will save the contents of your screen as a jpg file that you can then print off. Try posting a message on one of the many computer forums.

You can also buy software to unlock the print blocker.

I found this, a free 30 day demo version of a screen grabber. Techsmith are a well known company no problems. Find them here:
