Does anyone know where I can find some information on replacing the mirror on a Nikon D50? Nikon has nothing and I can't find anything online!

The D50 isn't exactly a 'classic camera', it is a little too modern.

Is the mirror broken, scratched, or even there at all?

I don't mind giving tips about repairs to non-classics provided that the defect is repairable with classic tools and techniques.

This one is not - on AF cameras, you can't replace the mirror with some generic bit of mirror, as it has to have a semitransparent AF patch of defined pattern and transparency, and often a secondary mirror or prism sandwiched to it.

It will only be fixable by swapping the mirror sub-assembly with a Nikon original part. If neither Nikon nor any service partner still has spares left, you'll have to get hold of a dead electronics D50 to butcher. Not that hard, as the electronics are toast far more often than the mirror.

The mirror is broken. How hard is swapping it from a dead camera?
