I've bought Minolta X-7A. It arrived today. I've made three dry shots (without film inside). When I was trying to make fourth shot, the action button didn't do anything at all. Shutter didn't move and the lever is behaving as the lever which already moved the film to take a photo. I placed film in it but still, pushing the button does not do anything at all. The lever still can't move the film.

Is the battery ok? I believe this camera needs power to release shutter, I'm not sure and won't bet it needs, but just check it.

So, I checked batteries volgate. It should be 1,5V but it had ~~1,425V which allowed lights in the vizor to be turned on. After changing the batteries the camera still didn't do anything, but after about 1min it worked again!

Ok. The problem is back again. I shoot about 10 photos since the battery change and the camera blocked again. Same thing but the batteries are ok.

I'm thinking that this may be an early sign that the shutter release capacitors may be failing, though I could be wrong.

My Minolta X-700 occasionally does this, too. I know one time, I had the self-timer on, and the light was *very* dim. When it finished, the lens stopped down, but nothing else happened. The camera was basically locked up until the batteries suddenly gained power again and the camera freed itself up.

Grrr. I bought it from a guy who was using it without any problems.

Anyway. It blocked 2 weeks ago and it is still blocked.
