Hi
I just gave my young son my Zenit 12X. He is really into photography and wants to learn. The camera has been sitting in the cupboard for years so I put a new film and new batteries for the digital light meter in. However, now the little LEDs will not turn off when you release the shutter button.
Any ideas?
Andy

Two things come to mind.
First method: Remove the batteries :-))
Second method: Do you know anyone who needs a fishing sinker ?

OK Andy. I apologise for sounding sardonic and unhelpful.
Such is not the culture of this Forum.
But for learners, cameras are akin to pianos. A learner doesn't need an old piano as redundant from the local Pub but rather the best possible affordable instrument - otherwise he will not progress and all enthusiasm will be lost.

There are some Russian cameras which are not too bad - but Zenit isn't one of 'em. In this era of digital camera mania you can pick up a very nice Pentax Spotmatic very easily for around $20. And - if your are a fisherman there is an obvious destiny for the Zenit.

Greetings from Australia

The lightmeter of the Zenit 12X(P?) gets power via a simple switch which is closed by half depressing the shutter release. Probably there is a problem there. So open it up and have a look. Also look out for loose wires which could cause a short circuit. For instructions how to open the camera top see Tom Piel's excellent website:
http://www.tomtiger.com/
Scroll down on the left hand side to "Camera Articles and Repair Info" and click "Zenit Repair Project" You will find disassembly/assembly instructions on the right hand side then (a little scrolling is needed again).
I hope it helps.
