I've got a 35 RC that is in pretty good condition that I plan on giving to my wife for christmas. The aperture however is really sticky. It will open all the way to 2.8 but most of the time very slowly. Once in a blue moon (1 of 100?) it'll open quickly/correctly. I can see a smear of something on the aperture blades when looking through the lens. I'd like to clean it off in hope of getting the aperture moving correctly 100% of the time. I'm tempted to remove the front element to get to the aperture blades to clean them per Sauli's guide here: http://www.saulisarkka.com/gallery/Cameras/Olympus%2035%20RC%20front%20element%2 0swap/slides/oly_35_rc_front_lens_1.html My questions are: 1. Is this an OK or terrible idea? 2. What best to clean with? Lighter fluid? Isopropyl? 3. If I mark the element assembly before rotating it out of the helicoid and make sure it all goes back in the exact same way will the infinity focus and range finder be hunky dory? Thanks! Chris |

Ok, got the aperture fixed. Took apart the lens, gingerly applied ronsonol to the aperature blades, worked it open and closed a bunch, and it's working great. However, I've noticed that the range finder horizontal image is off by about 40%. I removed the screw in the film compartment to get at the horizontal adjustment but I don't get what there is to adjust. I expected there to be a screw or something but as far as I can tell there isn't. Rick's tech notes, as awesome as they are, don't really make clear how the adjustment is supposed to work. The drawing just shows the cover screw and then the rod. Any help here is greatly appreciated. |

Chris, Here's more Oly RC stuff here: http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/Oly_RC.html Yes, the RF horizontal adjustment is behind that screw in the film compartment. It's buried deep. Cheers, Russ Pinchbeck |
