I've tried three times to get a user Electro 35 from ebay, and thrice I've had dud's despite them all being listed as in good working order! This time, I've got some refund, and have decided that i'm 'going in'. I wonder if anyone can help? These are the symptoms

Metered speeds below 1/30th revert to 'bulb' even when on auto

PC connection doesn't work.

The 'under' light does appear to tally with meters in other cameras in my collection for about 1/30th, so I think the meter is OK.

There is NO POD clunk at all. Not even the slightest tiny click

Battery check light fine.

I'm reasonably engineer minded, and Yashica Guy's description of the POD repair looks well within my capabilities. I'm guessing that may be the culprit, as I believe there should be some clunk, albbeit quiet, when the camera is functioning correctly.

Is it terminal, or is there hope?
Thanks

Go ahead and fix your POD first, then see what else may be wrong. Don't forget to adjust the shutter release after you replace the POD (screw is in the bottom of the camera on the end of the shaft). POD is 2mm thick, no more, no less. Bad PC could be either a broken wire (brown), or just a dirty connector.

Thanks PF. What exactly needs adjusting on the shutter release?

As the manual isn't that clear, I wrote up how I adjust the release rods. You can find it at http://www.monopix.co.uk/yashicarods.shtml

You might also want to get the manual from my Scribd site at http://www.scribd.com/doc/19302555/Yashica-Electro-35-Service-Manual

Thanks Monopix. Very useful.

Incidentally, I found the manual previously, but I get Windows Virus checker freaking out when I try to download it, saying my PC has been infected by trojans etc. I've tried at work also where the Firewall is pretty robust, and the same thing happens. There seems to be no permanent damage, and a scan with Norton reveals nothing, so not sure if it is some 'fake' virus or a real one, but I'm not risking going there at the moment.

Thanks VM for other link to the rods adjustment -

'Windows Virus Checker' is one of the scam outfits that attach themselves to web sites only to scare you into downloading their scamware. It's a fairly common problem that seems to have been cured for me by updating to the latest Norton version. Now instead of that crap bugging me until I shut down the machine, Norton just blocks it.

CDSnapper. Don't know why you are having problems downloading. Scribd is a reputable site and I've never seen problems with it. If you want to PM me an email address I'll email you a copy. Or I can put it somwhere else temporarily for you to download from.

CDSanpper, I may have mispoke assuming that "Windows Virus Checker' is one of those pop-up programs. Did you buy it, or did it install itself on your computer when you tried to close a pop-up window?

Anyway, I looked into the FAQ on Scribd, and here is what they have to say:

Firewalls & Security Software
Some firewall software, anti-virus software, and other security programs may intercept internet traffic to help protect your computer. If you use any of these be sure they're configured to allow traffic to and from the following domains: scribd.com, scribdassets.com & amazonaws.com.

Try that and see if the warnings go away.

Thanks Br1078lum, and particularly Monopix for your help. I have replaced the POD, and I now have a nice quiet click when I wind on, and the wind one works when the three screws that hold the bracket that supports the frame counter assembly are loose, so that there is some 'play' in the system. However, when I tighten these up, it winds on but doesn't cock, leaving the rewind lever in the fully open position. And I thought I'd nailed it!!

Any ideas??

OK, I spoke too soon. It seems the auto parallax doesn't work either? I'm not sure it ever did, so it may not be something I have inadvertantly damaged while 'repairing' the shutter etc.

Anyone have any ideas - cant seem to find anything in the archive

Thanks

CD
