I was unscrewing the rear lens assembly of my Konica Auto S2 for cleaning when unfortunately and unexpectedly, the rear-most lens element popped out together with the c-ring. Now I have the rear-lens assembly, a c-ring, and the rear-most lens element and I am not sure how to put them back together.

- The rear-most lens element is flat on 1 side and convex on the other. Is the flat part of the rear-most element facing backwards (the film) or forwards (the aperture blades)?

- Am I correct to just drop the rear-most lens element into the back of the rear lens assembly and then pop the c-ring back into place? Will that hold?

Thanks for any help!

I have a mounted rear element in my hand and can see that the convex side faces outwards.

Hi Norman, thanks a lot!

I have put the rear lens element back together - it seems ok now. This is my first time taking apart and repairing a rangefinder. The camera came to me from that auction site and seems to have had a bad repair/maintenance job done on it. The front lens element wasn't put back together properly, and was loose - the cocking rack wasn't in proper place. I have fixed that and now it's on to cleaning of the aperture blades, which are stuck at the smaller apertures. Wish me luck.

I bought 2 of them both for repair. I could do nothing with one of them so I stripped it for parts, the other I fixed and am amazed at the quality of the results. I wish that I had saved the first one to try to fix later. So good luck with yours.
